Best Platform RPG BESIDES Final Fantasy?

Xenogears is my favorite game ever. It was even rushed and missing some stuff especially in the second disk and it's still the best IMO.
The Xenosaga stuff could have been good if Square and Namco didn't jerk around the creator of the story and feel the need to change it. I had always wished that a series of games could have been made based on the entire history of what happened in the universe of the game but that never happened.
People often talk about how a book is so much better than the movie that is made from it. Well in a strange way I don't even think either of those two could be told good even though a book. It seems strange, but it's like the only good way to show the story was in fact though a video game. It's just too bad they could never be totally told like they should have been.

don't forget Knights of the old republic, first one was better second one is good but rushed out so could of been better, Fable sort of (well maybe not) but it worth a play, and not forgetting Vandal Hearts 1 & 2 (Both for Playstation) which i am replaying at the moment while my 360 is in the repair shop. there is loads more out there, if you a fan of final fantasy(when it was good as in 9 backwards) then i would recomend Blue Dragon on the Xbox 360 is very good.

Really? I had given up hope for RPGs since the FF series went downhill so bad. I just figured nothing could be as good as that series. I'll have to check this game out then!

Despite what everyone say I wouldn't call Final Fantasy an RPG. It's more of an adventure game or just story-driven game.
A true RPG must have the option to create your own character (role) and affect the story line. The best such games in my opinion are Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate and the Diablo games. I know the latter two might not really be what I call RPG but they're in comparison to FF at least

I'm right there with you.I loved Xenogears soooo much that I was having dreams about the game during the time I was playing it.I was tired of RPGs before I played Xenogears and it single handedly restored my faith in RPGs.
The first Xenosaga game was a total let down to me.It looked really good but the Awegs,or whatever they were called,were as useless as the GFs in FFXII.It was a complete waste.I didn't even bother playing the other two games of the series,I was so turned off.
I bought Star Ocean:Til The End Of Time out of the used bin from EB.It had real potential but the combat system was absolutely atrocious.
There was a game for the NES called Ultima:Quest for the Avatar,it was pretty good but really hard.

FF may not be a true RPG by definition. But I loved the series up till VII that is. After that it started going down hill I played X it was alright and the one after that with the chicks was complete crap and I lost all hope for this type of game after that.
I'd love to find another game similar to the FF series that hasn't already gone to shit! I just downloaded the demo for blue dragon, so I'll check that out in a bit.

Somewhere in between Final Fantasy VI and VII the series began going down hill. By X-2, it's located at rock bottom. Let's hope there'll be some kind of revival. Until then, I'm replaying VII at least once per year.

Ok, so I don't like blue dragon, seems to childish for me. This new one they've got out now COD:KUF is to repetitive. Also the combat system seems like it's been done before, no real skill involved other than continually hitting a button. Reminds me more of GOW than anything which isn't even a RPG!

Have you played FF XII yet? A lot was changed up in that one that changed the series for the better. The battle system was redone that got rid of the turn base system, which takes a little time to get used to, but it works really well. To me, 12 is one of the best in the series.
Sudeki (xbox) was a pretty good game.
Legend of Legia (ps1) and Legia 2 (ps2) are fun as well.
The Phantasy Star games are pretty good too.
Dark Cloud 1 and 2 (ps2)
Dragon Quest VIII (ps2)
Disgea 1 and 2 (ps2), strategy games mixed with rpg elements.
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 (ps2) At first look, they seem more like games for younger audiences but they can be enjoyed by anyone.
