So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

The BIGGEST news in this week is this : *9, 7,319 *7,319 Kill Me Baby "Super Best Album CD" (bundled with OVA) Given its BD sold just a few hundred it is an amazing comeback. If it is counted in the BD chart it would even make #4. Anyway, being in top 10 of the weekly album chart is quite an achievement already. And this just proves what I have been saying, that Kill Me Baby is a franchise that got very poor anime disc sales but yet retain a high level of popularity. I never cease to be amazed at how many people still talk about this anime or making references about it so long after the anime has ended. |

In the post I was just transliterating the Japanese ベル, but if there is an official English translation for the word I can use that too. Indeed. Specifically, a name plate on a clothing rack which appeared during the episode 29 preview shows "Bell Selection" in cursive writing. Then again, there was a confusion whether it was "Bell" or "Beru". |

^ Well, as far as transliteration is concerned, Beru is correct, but if the character is someone who has only English name and got a Japanese name by having the name converted into katakana, then we should always follow her original English name. And if such information is not available, then I'd say both Beru and Bell are correct, but then if the anime itself is showing her name as Bell then I guess we should write it as Bell. Haine15 said: Actually it is substantially lower than the Stalker prediction, which is 18.2k BD+DVD (with 1.1k being DVD), and its sales is not much higher than the TV series sales (which is what is expected for a movie with new contents), so viewed in this way fans in Japan treat the result as a bit of a disappointment.*2, 10,884 10,884 Hanasaku Iroha: Home Sweet Home ^Good that it's 2nd can't wait for subs to come out :3!! |

tsudecimo said: I still remember vividly the reactions from fans when Kill Me Baby was on air. Many comments about how half an hour feels like hours. How repetitive are the look and feel. How hypnotizing it is. How few characters there are... There are tons of AA (ascii arts) and jokes about how fans said they watched the OP, slept for 20 min and then woke up to catch the ED again lol. But as the series progressed, hypnotizing became mesmerizing and more and more watchers confessed that elements of the visual, the sound, and the jokes were hard to get rid of from the head. Some of the Kill Me Baby jokes became constant currency in forums like 2ch (like the one with Yasuna claiming something she is going to recommend is going to be interesting and confidently said Sonia could bury her under the tree if it is not the case - of course we know what happens afterwards). And not sure if it is by word of mouth or social networking, the series became a sort of cult classic. The fact that Kill Me Baby and its jokes are still being referenced means that there are quite many people who have seen the work or at least know about it - it is well recognized. Why did the Japanese fans not like it? I watched a couple of episodes and thought it was hilarious. tsudecimo said: BakaTest 1st season sold well though. And Danshi koukousei no Nichijou and Nichijou are both a bit like Kill Me Baby, though to a lesser extent: I mean both do have some recognition and there are some fan base to the works (although both seem to pale when compared with Kill Me Baby), but neither proved successful at BD/DVD sales. In Danshi's case, feedback at the time when it was aired was pretty good, but on the other hand, not many people think that this is something worth paying a small fortune (anime BDs are not cheap) to own. Which makes me want to ask, what comedy anime are more successful? because most of the comedy anime I like and find funny seem to have bad sales or not high enough sales ( ex: Nichijou, Danshi koukousei no nichijou, Baka to test) In term of good anime BD/DVD sales for pure comedy (not drama+comedy like OreGairu, Chu2byo or Haganai), there are comedies like Working!, Hidamari Sketch, Hetalia, Yuru Yuri and I would count Dog Days as well (1st season has some drama though) and maybe Nyaruko-san and Ika-musume (both 1st season) |

Natsu12345 said: In short, the title was not charted at all so there is no number to report. Of course it does not mean the actual sales was zero. In Blood Lad's case, the threshold for charting in the full weekly BD chart was 630 for the week when Blood Lad vol.1 was released, so it means Blood Lad vol.1 had to sell <630 BDs that week. For DVD the threshold was even higher (like 800 something). It is entirely possible that Blood Lad actually sold 1400 BD+DVD that week and still would not be charted, although more likely it should have sold quite a bit fewer than that. Can anyone tell me what does these **,*** ** mean? I thought SnK vol 4 would have done a bit better considering ost 2 was included if I'm not mistaken... |
5 main aspects I base my ratings on: 1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it? 2. Is it better than Breaking Bad? 3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it? 4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL? 5. Is it actually good? Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant... |

Not sure if this is the right way to put it, because I never see KMB dwelling on its failure when they keep up the trickle of merchandise which now turns into a small wave with this best album (coming with OVA) and later the BD Box. Besides I see more references to its jokes and humor than talks about its poor sales when people mention KMB.KMB has pretty successfully marketed its own failure. |

slow week, Kill me Baby OVA sold pretty well unlike the TV anime, but it can be attributed to it being bundled with a CD, a lot of anime music CDs sell 7300+ even if it's from an anime that sold dismally. |

For comparison, another anime which gets talked a lot in 2ch where people like to treat as a big joke to be bullied and mocked is Fractale but it never got beyond that status. Of course the troll status of Yamakan the director may have helped the anime to get stuck in the mocking target category but I would say that even those who were brought to the show by the negative attention do not find much merit or appeal for them to switch their opinion. |

Ahh, I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it will sell well, I'll be buying it as well. Nice. I was watching Tokyo Ravens and was like, hmmm guess I'll give this show a chance...then the OP came on and I was like WHOA WHAT IS THIS?! lol. That OP is sooooo catchy. Hope it does well. I'm thinking of buying the CD, but I doubt I'll be buying the BDs though. I haven't seen much this season that is wow I want this BD right now although I've been and still considering Yu-Sibu, but that's pretty much it. |

Could get expensive... |

What i'm looking forward to see the most is Diabolik Lovers sales. That show totally caught me off guard and gives me serious lulz. It's garbage, but somehow i can't seem to stop watching it. Here's some hope that the BD/DVD gonna come out as fast as possible so i can bathe myself in some more lulz |

The "limited edition", a phrase so abused nowadays that it usually just means the default edition that often is not even "limited", is truly limited. It is available only by direct order at Diabolik Lovers site, Animate (online or storefront) and Stellaworth (a shop that sells only female oriented games). Amazon does not stock it and so its sales trend is NOT available. We have no idea how good or bad it will sell. 3. The "regular edition" will be released only Two Months after the "limited edition" is out. It is indeed stocked by Amazon but currently the sales prediction is very low at around 200. The "limited edition" of vol.1 will be released on Nov 27. I believe Oricon will count the sales at Animate but I doubt it will count the sales made by the official franchise website. So any sales we are going to see will very likely be a substantial underestimate. |

The limited edition label is tacked on so people will preorder, nothing too bad about it, it may cause some confusion, I'd rather have it as 1st edition or 1st pressing instead to prevent confusion. Having the DVDs exclusive is a mixed bag, while it's good for Japanese fans, it does pose problems for an importer and things will get more expensive soon for purchases due to the sales tax hike in Japan and while it won't affect most importers, it will affect those who buy exclusive items that will require a forwarding service. I'll be hit with that tax when I get the next exclusive or possible limited/rare item off an auction site or Dengekiya. 3. That sucks |

Offering just one format, and a cheaper one at that, cuts cost, and we know female consumers don't mind DVD format, in fact often preferring it. Making it available at only very limited number of channels cuts cost substantially too, both in terms of inventory manufacturing/storage cost and distribution cost. Foreign buyers are going to be a tiny minority anyway and Animate and direct order offers countrywide coverage. I won't call it poor business sense so easily.1. That sucks I think the affordability is the reason female buyers prefer DVDs over BDs, as for direct order and other mail order methods, it's common knowledge that the reason for them buying this way is for convenience and privacy, I don't blame them, being in an anime section with mostly men would be frightening or embarrassing for a female especially if she's with her friends. |

Now whether that's a sign of how good the Tokyo Ravens OP is or how unimpressive the rest have been I'm not sure. |

If females find it even hard to enter a ramen shop it is easy to see how much more reluctant they would be entering an anime shop if it is deemed to server a mainly male clientele.it's common knowledge that the reason for them buying this way is for convenience and privacy, I don't blame them, being in an anime section with mostly men would be frightening or embarrassing for a female especially if she's with her friends. |

So anime section with mostly females do exist in Japan. |

And I am not sure if Animate had as many female customers by proportion in the past as now - I always have a feeling that Animate put less focus on catering female consumers until the last 20 years or so. While Animate now has an environment that makes it easy for female customers to go, I think for most places that sell anime BD/DVD (which is where we started talking about male/female customers here) tend to have overwhelmingly male customers. As for DVD, I think hpulley and I would all agree that there is the question of price. However as for how widespread the players, I think while we can quote this as a major factor back in 2008 or 2009, over the years male otaku have largely shifted to BDs while female fans and mainstream consumers till buy more DVDs than BDs. This mean the spread of the players is a symptom - there should be deeper reason behind why BD players are not more widespread except in some areas like the male otaku. I always read in places 2ch where people claim that there is no point in buying DVD because the current digital TV already offers better video quality than DVD, but clearly many people do not notice the difference and thus go for the cheaper DVD than the more expensive BD. As for whether female otaku are open or not, I think it all depends. I have read articles where women were interviewed about hiding their anime and manga hobby from everyone. What I sense is that people are more open than the past (say 10 years or 20 years ago) and this is the same for male and female otaku, but still there are quite a bit of stigma regarding the otaku label. You are right in saying that it is more tricky in a relationship for males if they revealed to be an otaku, but I am sure that unless the other side is also an anime/manga fan, a female otaku could also hit problem if her hobby is exposed. As for girls talking Hetalia loudly but guys talk K-On only quietly, I guess it has more to do with ojiisan talking about high school girls in K-On could be viewed as kimoi hentai while girls loving ikemen manga is considered normal?
